Happy New Year + {Free Printable}

Good-bye 2014!  Although I have to say it was a great one.  Some amazing things have happened to our little family and I wouldn't change it for the world!  The great thing about this holiday is it gives us a time to reflect on what is most important to us, and what needs focused on the next year.  While I am not normally a resolution type of girl, I am choosing a word to guide me through the next 365 days.   I feel that in a resolution, if you mess up that one time, you feel like a failure for the whole year.  Everyday is a new beginning and I intend to start each day with a FOCUS!

I have this framed by my bedside as reminder when I wake each day.  If you would like one for yourself, you can get a 5x7 print HERE.  Print.cut.frame. (some things never change)

Be Safe and see you in 2015!

Kid's Year at a Glance

I can't believe 2014 is coming to an end!  What a year it has been.  Watching my Sweet Girl grow into an amazing little lady is truly the greatest gift I have ever been given.  Because of the partnership her dad and I have, I am graced with the opportunity to take such an active role in her life...hence why I am still her best friend!  I have her fill out one of these each year to mark what an adventure we have had.  This year I have goals for myself...those will come later...but for now here is Miss O's Year at A Glance and her hopes for 2015!

You can grab one for your little to fill out HERE !

I wish all of you a healthy, peace filled New Year and thank you again from the bottom of my heart for following along!

Biscuits & Gravy + a little Sir Mix-A-Lot

Biscuits and Gravy.  Reason #8 why I love my husband.  He is known around these parts for their deliciousness.  So jealous as he has the ability to just throw things in a pan and add as needed.  Me?  Measurements or no go.  Also, if I know how to make these, than it will be my job from then on out.  You got brains girl!  I asked for measurements and did some comparisons to make the recipe card. As far as the sausage goes, if in the Peoria area, Pottstown Meat and Deli in the Metro Centre is the way to go.  ALL of their product is amazing and the breakfast sausage is out of this world!

Reason # 12 why I love him?  His days in public schools gives me a certain street credit.  Who knew Sir Mix-A-Lot liked more than big butts?!?!  Like buttermilk biscuits. And who can eat the recipe without this song in your head?!?!

You are welcome!

"Finding the Grain" {Book Review}

For a girl who loves to read, the chance to review books is the bees knees!  I have read everything from children's books to love stories, and even a sci-fi thrown in there.  "Finding the Grain" is one of my favorites so far!
Shulamit Hartal has created an incredible piece of literature.  The craziest was translated from Hebrew!  So much can be lost in translation (good movie by the way), but I don't feel that is the case with "Finding the Grain".  The book centers around the main character, Chani Tavin whom is the matriarch of her Israeli family.  It follows her soul searching journey that begins haphazardly when she stumbles upon a set of psychology books while out with her husband.  As with all of us, who she is as an individual can be traced back to her trying childhood.  The story is told by the numerous generations gathered to mourn her death.  Letters that she leaves behind allows her voice to be heard within the piece and leads us to a better understanding of who she is.  Any more info and I will be giving all the good parts away!

"Finding the Grain" is a novel that will truly inspire you.  It reminds you that it is never too late to make peace with your past, or reflect and find out who you really are.  I have to admit it was perfect timing with the new year upon us.  Maybe the LBH blog will eventually document this incredible journey I myself am on!

Grab it on Amazon HERE.  Load it onto that Kindle or Kindle App.  Just make sure you start it before bedtime as you won't want to put it down!

Knock Knock Jokes for Kids {Book Review}

I just left a family Christmas party where my child, the only child there, entertained everyone with her obnoxious jokes.  Including the made up ones that know it...poop.  God help me the kid has too much Christmas spirit tonight or I have not had enough wine!  I was able to come to her rescue and remind her of the knock-knock jokes we learned from the book.  It is filled with hundreds of jokes.  Each day we would read a page and bust a gut laughing,  There is nothing better than a good belly laugh from a child.  You can get a great deal on it now at HERE at Amazon!

Merry Christmas Little Hoo! {Book Review}

Miss O was given the opportunity to review this adorable children's book via her momma's Tomoson connections!  "Merry Christmas Little Hoo" has joined the list of Little Blue House Holiday Library. The pictures were adorable!  The illustrations were minimal, yet so appealing to the eye.  And for a Kindergartner, this book was easy for her to read.  Miss O asked to read it everyday and could identify with Little Hoo's excitement over the holidays.  I am pretty sure she will be listening to every sound hoping to trap Santa Claus!

I wanted to make her something to remember the book and so I made her a "Little Hoo" ornament. This year, our whole tree was handmade so I found it fitting to add Hoo to it!

Abigail and the Sahara Adventure {Book Review}

This blog post if brought to you by Miss O.  I was given the book "Abigail and the Sahara Adventure to review on the LBH blog.  Miss O and I fired up the Kindle app on the iPad and downloaded this delightful book for her to review. You can find it HERE on Amazon. These are her words!

"The book was a smile face (at school it is ranked as a smile, ok, or sad face).  This girl Abigail, SHE HAS A MAGICAL BIKE!!!.  For real.  She found it at her grandpa's house.  Does PawPaw have a magical bike for me?  Well she went on the bike and went to the desert.  Where my cousins Bianca and ViVi live (Dubai is where they be).  She got to help a lot of people!  Did you know in the desert they have to carry water...ON THEIR HEAD?!?!?!  Is the beach the desert?  Maybe the desert would have iced coffee so you wouldn't be so hot Momma!"

Well there you go ladies and gentleman.  Abigail finds bike.  She travels to the desert (dang that is a haul) and helps people along the way.  This book was perfect for Miss O.  Bright colors, great pictures, and right up her reading range.  Check out the book and let me know what you learn about the desert!!

Elf Party2014 {Free Printable}

Elf Party 2014 happened this past weekend at my parents' Riverhouse.  They head up there on the weekends and enjoy the "easy life".   It is truly a bit of paradise just a few short miles away!  And every year the grand kids head up and deck the halls and make some amazing memories!

My mother does such an incredible job decorating and the holidays never cease to amaze!  She has this amazing Super Power to take a tub of decorations, do her thing, and next thing you know, you stepped into a magazine!

How about some Tree Trimming?

Gingerbread making, Liv reading to her cousins, and Busters transformation into Santa!

Who needs syrup and candy canes when you can have gin and tonics???

This girl makes everything Merry and Bright!

Although Will Ferrell drives me bat shit crazy, I couldn't help but think of this quote from the movie "Elf" when uploading these pictures.

 I created a printable to frame (duh) and you can get your own HERE!

What are you holiday traditions?

Book Review: Terry Treetop and the Lost Egg

Miss O and I were recently given the opportunity to read another Terry Treetop book.  This series follows an adorable red-haired guy with freckles (hmm...Little Buster) on his many endless adventures.  This time that guy Terry found a lost egg and traveled all around to find out who it belonged to.  He met many animals along the way and finally found the nest the egg belonged in.  Miss O loved the all the different animals but the mother bird was by far her favorite.

After reading the book, we talked about our home and community.  We worked on our address, state, and country.  Miss O also wanted to draw a picture of where she lives...AKA the Little Blue House.

Skipping Stones {Book Review}

I have always loved a good book.  A well written book will open a door to a world you never knew possible.  You find yourself closing your eyes and literally "seeing" what life for the characters looks like.  "Skipping Stones", by J.B McGee did just that.

I found myself on an emotional roller coaster for the character Lexi.  From the depths of despair, to the hope she finds for her future, I was rooting for her all the way.  I felt her heartache like no other.  I wanted Lexi to find the inner peace and love she so deserved.  Anyone who knows me will tell you I am not a fan for the over the top romance, chick flick kind of stuff.  I refuse to this day to read, watch, or entertain 50 Shades of any color!  The romance in this book was just right, and left to the imagination of the reader.  Plus her name is quite similar to my favorite faux writer JB Fletcher :).

You can easily grab this book for an amazing price (Hello $1.99) for your Kindle or other device on Amazon HERE.  I have an iPad and just downloaded the Kindle app to use. I will warn you, make sure you have a box of Kleenex!

K5 Learning Program

I was given the opportunity to review the K5 Learning Program and who'd a thunk I had the perfect student!  The K5 program provides Reading and Math "enrichment" through fun games and activities for your children.  Miss O was so pumped to play on Momma's computer.  Watching her play the games brought me back to the days of the game Oregon Trail that we played in grade school.  You know, back in the day when you had to use the obsolete floppy disk...that for real flopped!  The Kindergarten games were perfect for her computer skills and were on course with what she is learning at school.  I printed out a bunch of the worksheets and have them on hand to use.

Tag Team Back Again!

Ahh the yearly ritual of wrapping the Christmas gifts.  The smell of Scotch tape (always reminds me of the Holidays, I know bizzaro), Christmas music in the background...sounds nice right?  I always start out aiming for perfection and by the end, I want a drink and throw everything in gift bags!!  Has anyone else noticed that EVERY children's toy is in the most oddly shaped package?  Try making that look like your 5 year old didn't wrap it!  Along with a sock monster who leaves me with only one sock, I swear there he has a gift tag crony who finishes off my gift tags after each season.  The rolls of wrapping paper stay intact while the tags flee the area!  I created some gift tags to print, cut, and attach.  Just take a simple hole puncher to the top or slap some tape on the back and VIOLA!

Old Factory Candle Review + Giveaway

There is nothing I love more than a house full of warm and inviting scents.  Nightly we turn on all the twinkly lights, light some candles, and enjoy the "ambiance" as my momma says.  Another bonus is a  good smelling house buys time on when you have to clean.  If it smells good, it must be clean right?!?!  Enter Old Factory Candle.

I was given the chance to review these candles and I have to say I am in love.  All three scents were amazing.  After trial and error, pumpkin is in family room, cranberry in kitchen, and autumn leaves in the bedroom.  The scent is strong and they last up to 20 hours...each!!  Also, as a soy candle, you do not get all the soot and junk when burning.  I plan on trying other gift sets...maybe the 50 Shades set for the bedroom.  Oh wait, half the time I pass out on the couch blogging during Murder She Wrote!

Great News!  I get to give a FREE gift set to one of the wonderful LBH followers!  Just click on the Amazon link, pick out which set should be burning in your home, and leave your choice in the comment section of this post.  A winner at random will be picked!

Best of Luck My Loves!!

Pumpkin Donut Muffins

It is almost to an end.  All things pumpkin will soon be over.  It had a good run.  Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin Bread, Pumpkin Chili, Pumpkin Donuts, and lo and behold, these amazing Pumpkin Donut Muffins have all been consumed in the Little Blue House.  I bought some pumpkin coffee creamer and realized I was not so much a fan.  It saddened me to waste any of it so I used it to make these delightful treats.  I will warn you, the are like Lay's chips...You can't eat just one!

*I ended up using a little more creamer in frosting as the powdered sugar taste was a tad strong*

So what do you peg as the next big foodie craze?!?
